Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act, 2011
IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW
Illegal file sharing is a serious threat to New Zealand's creative industries. In addition to affecting the
livelihoods of the thousands of New Zealanders that work
in this field, the lost revenue represents a significant barrier to attracting new investment for
creating new content, and to establishing new methods of distribution.
The Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act will help to promote and protect not just the film and television
industries, but also music, literature and gaming too, which all represent important economic growth opportunities for
New Zealand.
The New Zealand film industry alone contributes $2.5 billion to our economy, including creating about 22,000 jobs (PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2009) which means loads of exciting career opportunities for New Zealanders.
This site provides you with information about how the Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act works, and what to do to prepare for it.
